Glass faircup

Overview

A faircup (Chinese: cha hai) is a small pitcher into which the contents of a small teapot or gaiwan are decanted, and from which tea is poured into individual serving cups. The purpose of the faircup is to ensure that an identical product is given to each drinker. If the teapot is poured directly into a number of cups, the first cup poured will tend to be weaker than the last. However, some have also noted that using a faircup may muddle the high aromatics of certain teas (such as Dan Cong), so using a faircup may not always be appropriate.[1]

Alternate English terms

A faircup may also be referred to as a "fairness cup" or a "sharing pitcher."

Materials

Faircups are constructed out of a variety of materials, such as glass, porcelain, or clay.
